Top Things To Do in Prague in 2022

Nicknamed the 'City of Thousand Spires' because of hundreds of Cathedrals spread across its compact, narrow streets, Prague is a place to visit if you are fond of history and architecture.

The city has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992, and thanks to its charming beauty, the capital of Czech draws over 8 million tourists yearly.

If you're one of those that plan to visit this historical city soon, check out some of the top things you should do there;

1. Walk Across Charles Bridge at sunset

Charles Bridge connects the charming Mala Strana district to Old Town Prague. If you're visiting during the summer, you might need to brave through the crowds to enjoy the views and the ambiance that this centuries-old bridge has to offer.

If you're lucky to travel here during the summer solstice, you'll be able to enjoy the spectacle that forms when the sunset line up flawlessly over St. Vitus Cathedral.

However, you can appreciate the views from the bridge plus its history at any time of the year.

2. Wander around in The Municipal House

Before constructing The Municipal House, the former Royal Palace and the king's residence between 1383 and 1485 stood in this site.

The palace was demolished in the 20th-century, and just after the turn of the century, the construction of this majestic building commenced in 1905.

Besides serving as host to the city's most significant concert venue, and the oldest bar in the city, this building is the epitome of high-tech architecture and a fantastic display of Nouveau Art in Prague.

3. Marvel at The Dancing House

The Nationale-Nederlanden building, nicknamed 'The Dancing House' or 'Fred and Ginger,' is one of Prague's most popular landmarks and the most photographed architecture masterpiece.

At first glance, you might not be able to tell what was on the architect's mind when he designed the building.

But with a closer look and a little bit of backstory, you'll see that the frontispiece of the complex resembles a dancing couple.

The concept of this building was inspired by the mastery dancing skills of the renowned couple Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

The 3000 square meter building is used as a restaurant, office premises, a conference center, and a gallery.

You can also enjoy the breathtaking panorama of the city from the rooftop terrace of the Dancing House.

4. Admire the Vitus Cathedral

Commissioned in the 13th century and built over approximately 600 years, Vitus Cathedral is the most dominant structure within the Prague Castle.

Among other treasures, the cathedral houses crown jewels, Art Nouveau stained glass windows, and it's also a final resting place for patron saints such as St Wenceslaus.

Since the structure's construction took hundreds of years, the difference in style and age of the stone is apparent, which makes the cathedral a sight to behold.

While it's possible to purchase a ticket and explore Vitus Cathedral at a leisurely pace, you might want to consider a tour.

That way, you'll hear the history and the legends of the cathedral, which will give a wholesome experience.

5. Visit the Jewish Quarter

Nestled between the Vltava River and the Old Town, the Jewish Quarter, also known as Josefov, is one of the most intriguing places to visit in Prague.

The Jewish minorities in Prague were confined within these walls for centuries. While this sounds like a dark history, it's also the main reason why Prague's Jewish Quarter hosts Europe's largest collection of Jewish items.

For that reason, this is a great place to visit if you want to peruse through the history of the Jew community – there are temples, graveyards, and centuries-old buildings with many folklores to tell.
