Top Things To Do In Madrid in 2022

Madrid is one of the best European capitals to discover. To help you plan your next trip, I have put together this guide highlighting the best things to do in Madrid.
1. Explore Madrid's Historic Center.

What better way to start your trip to Madrid than visiting the capital's historic center. This city houses numerous must-see attractions including the lively squares of Plaza Mayor, Plaza de la Villa, and Puerta Del Sol. Additionally, just wonder through the city centre as it is the historic heart of Madrid and a good place for shopping or a short tapas break. Furthermore, take advantage of the capital's covered markets and its numerous tapas bars. The most known is San Miguel Market. It is quite expensive but totally worth it!
2. Appreciate the beauty of Madrid Royal Palace.

Visiting the capital's Royal Palace appears to be one of the best things to do in Madrid. Unfortunately, it is forbidden to take pictures inside of the building for security reasons but the entrance is free in the last two hours from Monday to Thursday. So, I recommend you take advantage of this to admire the palace's interior. Additionally, right next to this structure, you'll find the royal armory. It can be visited under the same conditions. After visiting the Royal Palace and armory, I invite you to take a stroll through the Sabatini gardens.
3. Visit the Almudena Cathedral.

Located in the same square as the Royal Palace, Almudena is a must-visit place in Madrid. This gigantic cathedral is one of the most recent in the European continent. Built in 1993, Almudena Cathedral is known for its crypt, the largest one in Spain. Moreover, you can visit the Cathedral for free.
4. Admire The Prado Museum masterpieces.

The Prado is undoubtedly the most famous museum in Madrid, and one of the most famous on the European continent. You'll see that people from all over the world come to admire the works of various European artists. In the Prado museum, you'll find Flemish, Dutch, German and Italian art works. However, as far as I'm concerned, the most amazing ones are the French paintings of the 17th and 18th. Additionally, you will find the greatest concentration of paintings by the mysterious Hieronymus Bosch, famous for its Garden of Delights portrait. Furthermore, the Prado Museum houses the largest collection of Spanish painting including the works of Francisco de Goya.
5. Take a stroll through El Retiro Park.

Undoubtedly, the capital's most famous park and a must-do activity in Madrid. El Retiro Park is also one of the largest parks in the center and a nice little green break during your stay in Madrid. I suggest you stroll there and discover the park's beautiful crystal palace. Also, El Retiro houses a rose garden, botanical garden, and two palaces where temporary exhibitions are held.
