Top Things To Do in Budapest in 2022
There are so many things to love about Budapest – it’s a foodies paradise, the architecture is dazzling, and the nightlife is bustling.
If you’re ready to pack you bags and head over to this amazing Hungarian city, here are my top picks of the best things to add to your travel list:
1. Soak at a traditional thermal spa
The capital city of Hungary teems with thermal spas which create infinite opportunities to soak in warm, relaxing bathing spas year-round. With a slew of health benefits, soaking in a thermal spa should be at the top of your list of things to do in Budapest. I personally recommend Széchenyi Thermal Bath which is pictured above.
2. Take a Ride on Tram 2
Tram 2 is among the most stunning city tram tours in the world. Taking the tram offers you views of the most magnificent views of the Danube and the buildings along the route including the beautiful Hungarian parliament. It’s an unequaled way to sightsee while relaxing comfortably on a medium-paced tram and enjoying glorious views from a vantage point. You can enjoy other popular attractions along the route such as baths, the Gellert Hotel, and Buda Castle. It’s also a great way to have a different sight into how the Budapest populace lives.
3. Visit Memento Park
Located approximately 6 miles southwest of the Budapest city centre, Memento Park is mind bogging attraction that draws over 40,000 visitors each year. As the communist rule came to an end in 1989 most statues and figures that were seen as symbols of the communist dictatorship were removed from Budapest. Instead of destruction, this park was established in 1993 to host all sculpted plaques and monumental statues that would act as a reminder of the communist period. Today, it’s one of the most interesting attractions where you can see the statues of Lenin, Karl Marx, and other influential communist leaders.
4. Go hiking in the Buda Hills
If you want to have panoramic views of Budapest, then the Buda Hills is a must-visit spot. Besides the views, this place offers fantastic hiking trails winding through beautiful lush scenery. The trails are easy and as long as you’re in reasonably good shape, it should be fairly easy to get to the top. However, if hiking is not for you, then there is a funicular that can whisk you to the top in minutes. Along the way, you’ll find some attractions such as the City Park, Margaret Island, and The botanical zoo all of which add to the glory of these hills. From the top, you can see most of Budapest’s popular attractions.
5. Climb to the top of St. Stephen’s Basilica
Built to honor the first king of Hungary, this neoclassical cathedral is the largest church in Budapest and one of the most significant buildings in Hungary. Not only is it a magnificent structure but it also has a beautiful and captivating history. Its construction took over half a century due to a number of architectural fiascos. At one point, the colossal dome of the building collapsed during a storm, and the entire structure had to be demolished then reconstructed. In addition to its beautiful interior, St. Stephen’s Basilica is another awesome spot where you can go to enjoy beautiful views of the city.
Now you are ready to experience the best things to do in Budapest in 2022. I wish you a wonderful journey and please don't hesitate to share with me your thoughts about your overall travel experience. I look forward to reading your comments!
